For example, e-car manufacturers routinely advertise that their cars have a range of x miles. But this mileage estimate is based on depleting a fully charged battery. Good battery practice, however, means never depleting a battery below 20% capacity and never charging beyond 80% capacity. It is the dirty little secret that most e-car owners learn only after they have purchased a vehicle. Thus the actual, real life range of an electric vehicle is only 60% of the advertised range. That’s a significant decrease. If solid state batteries can deliver full capacity instead of only 60% that in itself would be a big advance.
